Putlalekha is a typical Sambalpuri (kosli) term which can be rendered as “pictowritting ” (Putla meaning idol or picture and lekha meaning writing).
Here it means the paintings which feature in a natural rock shelter named Usha Kuthi (21 degree 02’ 90” north & 83 degree 41’ 98” east) in the Pujadunguri complex. While Usha Kuthi is located in the forest village Chanabeda under Tangarkarle panchayat, Pujadunguri is situated on the border of the tahasils of Binka and Rampur in the district of Subarnapur. This place is approachable from Rampur (7 k.ms to the south east) and from Dunguripali (20 kms to the north east).
